There’s something very satisfying about stumbling across a band that immediately makes you wonder how the hell you’ve managed to miss them.
ARH are one of those bands.
The band have been knocking about since 2019 and originally released Tiens Donc in 2025 but is now getting a wider international release today, and quite frankly, it’s about time more people heard these guys.
ARH sit somewhere in that glorious space between math-rock, prog and heavy rock, throwing riffs, odd time signatures, huge grooves and absolutely ferocious drumming into the blender and somehow making it all sound ridiculously good. There’s a lot going on, but rather than feeling like a technical exercise, Tiens Donc is genuinely fun to listen to it’s just a shame it’s only two songs long.
There’s definitely a bit of Alpha Male Tea Party in there at times, although ARH bring a much heavier, more metallic edge to the party. The result is beefier, louder and occasionally downright nasty, while still retaining that playful quality that makes the best math-rock so much fun.
And honestly, these guys would absolutely smash ArcTanGent given the opportunity. Big proggy solos? Check. Mental drumming? Absolutely. Riffs that suddenly veer off in a completely different direction? Yep. Enough musical chaos to make you wonder how they’re all keeping track of where the one is? Definitely.
“Dose” is probably the track that grabbed me most. It comes crashing in with this huge, chugging, frantic sound and immediately had me thinking, who the fuck are these guys? There are ideas being thrown around everywhere, but it never feels stale or predictable. Every few seconds there’s another little turn, riff or rhythmic shift to grab your attention.
And that’s probably the biggest thing about Tiens Donc: it sounds fresh. It doesn’t feel like ARH are simply ticking the usual math-rock boxes. They’ve taken all those familiar ingredients and made something that feels distinctly their own.
I’ve got absolutely no idea where these guys have been hiding, but I’m pretty sure they won’t be hiding for much longer.
Keep an eye on ARH. And if they decide to come over to the UK, bUTTONpUSHER will be doing everything we can to get them to Nottingham.
