A few weeks ago, we had the chance to sit down with one of the UK’s fastest rising rock bands, El Moono, at the mighty ArcTanGent festival. We had a quick chat about their latest album and discussed the syncing of their music for horror movies and what’s on the horizon for the band.
Hey how’s your ArcTanGent been so far? Will you be sticking around all weekend?
It’s our favourite festival. We’re here all weekend, it’s our scene. Bumping into friends, seeing insane bands, it’s the best time!
Your new album “The Waking Sun” is an absolute banger. How are you finding the reaction has Been so far?
Thank you so much! It’s been so overwhelming in the best way. It’s been incredible to see how many people “get” it so quickly. I think Temple Corrupted took a few listens, and The Waking Sun seems to be really resonating with people, and thats why we make music.
You just played an incredible set at ArcTanGent as a last minute addition. How does it feel to be part of a festival like ATG and how do you find it differs from other shows that you might play?
We love ATG. Being added last minute, you go in without any expectations, but to see that many people out there vibing with our music is life affirming to be honest. We always put the same amount of energy and passion into every show, but it must be said that ATG just feels different. Everything slots into place, the crowd are on side, and it makes us feel like our little strange corner of the music world is the biggest thing on the planet. Magical.
You recently had some of your songs included in a horror film in the states called “The girl who cried her eyes out” . Will UK fans ever get a chance to see it and can you tell us a bit more about how that all came about?
Yeah, we’re really hoping so soon. It’s out on Amazon Prime in the states, but they’re working on worldwide distribution so hopefully we’ll be watching it soon! The director of the movie, Eugene John Belinda, loved Temple Corrupted and got in touch with us way back in summer 2022, with the idea we could write an original song for the movie alongside some songs from Temple. We wrote the entirety of The Waking Sun after that conversation, and wondered if Haunting or Illusionist would fit, but sent him the whole thing and said “take your pick.” I’m really happy he chose Phantom in the end, because it’s not a single and really is the most experimental end of the album, and I’m really proud of that song – so it’s lovely that it’s had its time in the sun and is getting a little slice of the “single” treatment.
What’s on the horizon for you guys?
We’re at ATG right now so probs a Bunnychow and some interesting time signatures. Then touring touring touring x1000
What are your 3 festival essentials that you can’t do without?
Chris brings a Sudoku book. He swears by it. It’s all you need.
You can catch El Moono on Tour this September
