Five bands you must see at ArcTanGent

The 10th anniversary of ArcTanGent is fast approaching, and the anticipation is electrifying! We’re counting down the days until we return to the enchanting Fernhill Farm for another unforgettable edition of the festival. With headliners like Explosions in the Sky, Meshuggah, and Mogwai ready to deliver breathtaking performances, next weekend promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

At bUTTONpUSHER, we take pride in spotlighting some of the lesser-known gems that may not be on everyone’s radar (yet) but are sure to captivate and win over a new wave of fans.

Here are our top five must-see picks for this year’s festival…

Sans Froid – Friday 12:45 – Elephant In The Bar Room

Bristol’s own Sans Froid are shaking up the scene with their avant-garde approach to art rock. Drawing inspiration from heavyweights like Björk, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, and Deerhoof, this progressive band creates a captivating fusion of art rock, prog, and alt-rock. Get ready, because their debut album, “Hello, Boil Brain,” drops in September 2024, promising a fresh wave of groundbreaking tracks which they will be showcasing at ATG next weekend.

Maruja – Friday 15:30 – Bixler

Hailing from Manchester, Maruja are emerging as a dynamic force in the UK alternative music scene, electrifying listeners with their bold fusion of post-punk, jazz, and experimental rock. Their live performances are nothing short of explosive making them a must see for us at ATG.

Night Verses – Friday 17:05 – Yokhai

Night Verses are an instrumental powerhouse hailing from Southern California. Their sound is a mind-bending fusion of surrealism and art rock, with a heavy dose of post-metal, prog, trip hop, and psychedelia. Forget about backing tracks; they use effects pedals on acoustic drums and live looping to build their massive, immersive soundscapes. Their DIY ethos shines through in everything they do—be it their striking album artwork, merch, or live visuals. Having recently toured with TOOL and teamed up with Justin Chancellor and Brandon Boyd, Night Verses are on the brink of something huge. Keep your eyes and ears peeled; these guys are set to shake things up on the Yokhai stage next Friday!

God Alone – Saturday 15:30 – Elephant In The Bar Room

Returning stars God Alone are once again making waves with their distinct mix of dancey black metal and math rock. The band were originally invited back for a silent disco headphone set on Friday night. However, following a recent cancellation, they’ve managed to secure an additional performance on Saturday afternoon at the Elephant In The Bar Room stage. Get ready for a whirlwind of kung fu, chaos, and unexpected twists and turns from the Cork boys. There’s even a chance we might hear some new material!

Thank – Saturday 14:00 – Elephant In The Bar Room Stage

Thank have been high on our list of bands to see for a long time now but conflicting schedules have meant always missing the Leeds based noise rock band when they’ve played anywhere nearby so where better to finally catch them than at ArcTanGent. Recently signed to Big Scary Monsters these maniacs will be showcasing material from their forthcoming album and we can’t wait if their new single ‘Writing Out a List Of All The Names Of God’ is anything to go by! Expect Chaos!
