FORT, the cinematic post-rock quartet from Cardiff, are back with a new EP entitled ‘Over The Water, Where The Clouds Grow‘ Drawing inspiration from giants like Caspian, And So I Watch You From Afar, and Mogwai, their blend of driving basslines and soaring guitars crafts a landscape that’s both emotional and immersive. Originally set to appear on their debut album, the band got so engrossed in their fresh material that they’ve opted to drop an EP instead ahead of their debut appearance at ArcTanGent Festival later this week.
Post-rock enthusiasts, brace yourselves: FORT’s latest release is a treat.

Over The Water, Where The Clouds Grow, is a bold three-part journey through a storm of emotions—from profound despair and grief to eventual acceptance and redemption.
The EP kicks off with “Three Of Swords” charging in with fiery guitars and relentless drums. This initial burst of energy gives way to a more introspective passage, featuring intricate melodies and shifting time signatures, before erupting into a chaotic crescendo of distorted percussion.
The title track, “Over The Water, Where The Clouds Grow” takes a bold step away from FORT’s usual sound. With an emphasis on piano, strings, xylophone, and electric guitars, it starts on a melancholic note but gradually unfolds into a story of hopeful optimism. The EP closes with “Beacons” a post-rock tour de force that echoes the softer moments of Caspian. This track builds into a powerful fusion of metal and shoegaze, delivering a climactic finish.
FORT really showcase their versatility on this new EP, masterfully blending diverse sonic elements into a cohesive and compelling narrative. Fans of the genre certainly won’t be disappointed with this release and we can’t wait to see how their debut album turns out next year!
