HANRY – Disruption (Review)

French instrumental post-rock sextet Hanry have released “Disruption”, a digital-only EP through Berlin’s Pelagic Records.

The band first made waves in 2022 with their debut Panorama EP, quickly carving out a distinct niche by blending expansive post-rock with acoustic warmth and the delicate, introspective textures of ambient electronica. Disruption further refines this formula, pushing the boundaries of both genres while maintaining an emotional resonance that’s both intimate and sweeping.

Opener “Radiance” emerges slowly, with ethereal electronics and glitches weaving through a melancholic piano. The track evolves into a rich tapestry of soaring post-rock and tranquil, ambient passages. “Ether” follows suit, building gradually on layers of synths and a steady backbeat, as the band’s intricate arrangements invite listeners to become enveloped in their world. Each song on the EP feels like an invitation to escape, offering a sonic sanctuary from the mundanity of everyday life.

Closing track “Intermission” stands out, with seductive electronics and gentle piano giving way to swelling guitars, powerful toms, and rumbling bass, creating a dynamic and immersive soundscape. As the band continues to hone their craft, Disruption cements Hanry as one of the most promising voices in the post-rock scene. With Pelagic Records guiding them, the future looks bright for HANRY, one’s to watch in 2025 and beyond.
