Bristol based noisemakers Host Body bring together members from Ilenkus, The St Pierre Snake Invasion, Ogives Big Band, Lightning Sharks, and Bokotono. Their forthcoming debut EP, Strain, is an ambitious plunge into the depths of heavy experimental metal, showcasing a relentless fusion of intensity and innovation. With Steve Roberts (Ogives) and Josh Guyett (Ilenkus) leading as dual vocalists, the record is a powerful showcase of raw energy and intensity that’s sure to win over fans of unorthodox heavy music.

The EP’s lead single, “The Mountain” is a chaotic burst of energy that channels the frenetic aggression of bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan and Coilguns. It delivers an exhilarating and abrasive onslaught that just doesn’t hold back. In contrast, “Swarmer” adopts a more industrial aesthetic reminiscent of early Nine Inch Nails, evolving into something darker and more unpredictable—a constantly shifting, punishing experience.

On “Graven Image” Roberts takes centre stage, his vocal delivery cutting through a barrage of blast beats and jarring guitar riffs with an almost oppressive intensity. Meanwhile, “Sanguine” begins with a deceptive calm before erupting into a tempest of sound. Roberts screams and Connor Geraty’s drumming drive the track’s relentless energy, while Sam Drower’s bass lines provide a steady undercurrent, grounding the chaos with a sense of looming dread.
