Karate, the influential indie band from Boston, are set to release their new album, “Make It Fit” on the 18th October through Numero Group. This marks their first studio album in two decades. The album features ten tracks mixed by longtime collaborator Andy Hong, including the opener “Defendants” and the closing track “Silence, Sound” both of which are available to listen to now below.
Formed in 1993, Karate became known for their distinctive fusion of punk, jazz-rock, post-rock, and slowcore. The band, consisting of Geoff Farina, Eamonn Vitt, Gavin McCarthy, and Jeff Goddard, released several critically acclaimed albums before disbanding in 2005 due to Farina’s hearing issues.
Interest in Karate’s music resurged over the years, prompting Numero Group to reissue their catalog. The band’s reunion in 2022 involved a new approach to collaboration, working remotely to create “Make It Fit.” Despite the challenges of recording in an unfinished studio, the album maintains the band’s signature sound while introducing fresh elements.
