Liverpool’s Kusanagi are back with a brand new single, and it’s a mind-bending journey you don’t want to miss.
Today marks the release of Spacial Awareness, a stunning new track that’s part of their highly anticipated album PARAMNESIA, due to drop on May 30th via Ripcord Records. With this single, Kusanagi continue to push the boundaries of instrumental post-rock, blending influences from a wide spectrum of genres—post-rock, metal, electronic, hip hop, synthwave, and classical—into a sound that’s uniquely their own.
For Kusanagi, Spacial Awareness was a labor of love, reworked and revisited throughout the writing process until they finally honed in on a version that perfectly encapsulated the band’s evolving vision. In fact, the middle atmospheric section of the track became a key focal point, bringing the vibe and concept together in ways they hadn’t initially anticipated.
“The idea behind the title Spacial Awareness refers to the recognition of objects and structures that move through time and space,” the band explains. “It’s a concept that resonated deeply with the track’s central musical idea and set the tone for the overall vibe of the piece. The title itself really felt like a perfect match for what we were going for.”
But it’s not just the concept that makes Spacial Awareness stand out. The track’s haunting opening bass line laid the groundwork for everything that followed, sparking creative contributions from the entire band. “That bass intro really set the structure for the track,” they say. “It provided the foundation that helped us navigate the direction the song needed to take, and ultimately helped shape the overall aesthetic we wanted for PARAMNESIA.”
As the band gears up for the full album release, Spacial Awareness offers an exciting preview of what’s to come. For fans of genre-defying, thought-provoking music that explores the vastness of sound, Kusanagi are a band you’ll want to keep on your radar.
