Since bursting onto the scene at just 16 years old with three self-released singles, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have quickly become one of the most exhilarating and unpredictable acts in London. With a dynamic blend of joyous energy and raucous spirit, the band recently celebrated their milestone 100th gig and are set to take a significant step forward this November with the release of their debut EP on indie tastemaker label Fat Possum Records and today they release new single ‘The Boss”
The EP, recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne, showcases cinematic arrangements layered with bursts of cacophony. Frontman Billy Ward describes their creative process: “We thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often jumping between the two—it’s that chaos that excites us.”
Looking ahead, the band has a packed touring schedule, highlighted by a Halloween headlining show at London’s iconic 100 Club. They’ve also announced their largest UK headline tour to date, set for February 2025.
Speaking about their latest single, “The Boss” the band notes, “It’s the heaviest track on the EP and definitely a live favourite. We aimed to capture our frustration with the imbalanced power dynamics in our everyday lives, delivering a massive rock anthem.”
The writing process for “The Boss” started as a standard punk tune until Emmie and Clio spontaneously improvised an interlocking violin/synth line that shifted the song’s direction. Ward added, “Working with Dan Fox in the studio was a blast, allowing us to experiment with creating a spacious sound. We especially enjoyed recording the electric violin through guitar amps cranked to 10 while manipulating a tape delay unit.”
