Atlanta, GA’s finest emo trio Michael Cera Palin have dropped new single A Broken Face, taken from their upcoming debut album We Could Be Brave, which is due for release on 7th March via Big Scary Monsters (UK) and Brain Synthesizer (US).
The track is a pure rager as a tight knit rhythm section races with double time punk beats, surging towards a peak that sees vocalist Elliott Brabant erupt in a broken scream amidst a bed of fizzing guitar work, purposely devoid of any polish that live has the potential to stir up a frenzy of jubilant chaos. It’s an aural imitation of A Broken Face’s themes; an overt sense of frustration with the broken class system while giving encouragement to collective action.
“To take stock of what “we could be brave” in the face of, we’re looking for the snares set to entrap us from reaching our greatest selves.” says vocalist Brabant. “MCP is always foremost a punk band, so this is a matter of examining systems. On A Broken Face, we stand against the erosive defeatism of disempowered wage labor. Other tracks on the album skewer the likes of queer assimilation, public education’s failure of neurodivergent youth, and the rise of neo-fascism. Unionize!! Fight for your rights!! Then fight like hell some more!!”
Alongside the new single, MCP have also revealed they’ll be celebrating the release of their album with a stint across mainland Europe supporting The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, as well as what promises to be a riotous headline UK tour in April.
