To celebrate the anniversary of The Ocean (Collective)’s ambitious 9th studio album ‘Holocene’, the post-metal outfit have collaborated with Nathan Fake on a techno-inspired remix of album opener ‘Preboreal’.
Serving as a closing chapter to The Ocean’s epic palaeontology-inspired album series, ‘Holocene’ also represents an exciting dynamic shift towards electronics and digital manipulation for the band, whilst also redefining their inimitable sense of heaviness at the same time.
It was therefore a natural decision to reach out to the band’s friend and tourmate Nathan Fake to work together on a reinterpretation of the powerful ‘Preboreal’. English producer and renowned electronic artist Nathan Fake saw his 2006 debut album ‘Drowning In A Sea Of Love’ released to critical acclaim and has since built a reputation for distinctive remixes combining ambient electronics with raw-edged techno, such as his reimagining of Radiohead’s ‘Morning Mr Magpie’ for their 2011 TKOL RMX 1234567 album at Thom Yorke’s request.
Fake’s remix of ‘Preboreal’ is a pulsing, club-dub groove that accompanies haunting echoes of the original as icy, staccato synths emerge from the dark. A reinvigorated reimagining of a post-metal masterpiece, ‘Preboreal’ – the Nathan Fake Remix pulls us ever deeper into The Ocean’s truly progressive oeuvre, opening up new sonic possibilities and exciting, uncharted territory.
