We recently had the pleasure of hosting brand new band The None at JT Soar in Nottingham for one of their debut live appearances and holy shit they did not disappoint.

The band formed at the start of 2023 and bonded over hours in the rehearsal room – making noise, discussing shared obsessions, and, most importantly, playing together.

The anonymity of their name reflects a creative approach which favours egoless experimentation and open collaboration. This ethos, the combined decades of music making, and the unique musical identities of all four members can be clearly heard in the art they create.

There was a lot of anticipation and excitement in the air for the newcomers given they’re somewhat of an underground supergroup but essentially the band are a fierce and fiery new noise rock outfit comprising bassist Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party, Young Legionnaire), vocalist Kaila Whyte (Blue Ruth, Youth Man), guitarist Jim Beck (Cassels) and drummer Chris Francombe (Frauds),  They pummelled their way through an aggressively melodic 40 minute set of unreleased songs with so much intensity for such a tiny little venue that you couldn’t keep yourself from just grinning like a maniac, think along the lines of The Jesus Lizard and Unwound and you’re headed in the right direction.

Keep an eye on this lot because they are brimming full of energy and will definitely be making waves this year as they unleash their chaos upon unsuspecting UK audiences.
