ATG Introducing #1 : WOT GORILLA?

In the run up to ArcTanGent next weekend we’ll be introducing you to some of the bands playing this years Festival, first up we had a chat with Matthew Haigh from Wot Gorilla?

Hi Matt can you introduce yourselves please?

We’re Wot Gorilla? and we’ve pretty much been around since the dawn of time! We started life as a 4 piece at the end of 2009 but have had a couple of line-up changes since then and we’re now a 3 piece. The music has gradually got heavier as the years have gone by but we’ve always kept that progressive writing style.

What are you most excited about at ArcTanGent?

Converge! Been a huge fan of them for years but never got the chance to catch them live so can’t wait for that. The silent disco is always a laugh and I’m also taking my 5 month old daughter along with me and the missus so excited for her to experience her first festival! (I have a feeling we may
regret this decision…)

What can people expect from your set at ATG?

We’ll be playing a mix of old and new songs. We’re actually taking a chance on a song that we haven’t played live in about 3 years, so that’ll be interesting! Expect some awkward chatter in between songs, we’re not great at the whole interacting with the crowd thing, heckling is very welcome to fill those awkward moments.

Any bands from your area the ATG fans should be checking out?

Irk are a great band from Leeds, just up the M62 from us. You’ve almost definitely already heard them but if not we highly recommend. We played with a while back, they’re like a less metal Meshuggah and are awesome live. We also recommend checking out our friends in Real Terms (ex
Vasco da Gama), Alpha Male Tea Party and I’ve heard some band called A-Tota-So are worth a look in too 😉

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

We’re playing with Tricot and Delta Sleep the week after ATG at Bush Hall in London on 25/08 which will obviously be insane! Then, the week after that we’re in Sheffield playing MADE’s 4th Birthday at The Audacious Art Experiment on 02/09 with loads of awesome bands. In our spare time we’ll be in the practice room writing new stuff.

What are your festival essentials?

Alcohol (obvs) and waterproofs (it always rains at ATG)

When can people see you at ArcTanGent?
