Bands you need to see at ArcTanGent Festival 2025

As ArcTanGent returns to the legendary Fernhill Farm, we’re gearing up for another full weekend of riffs, chaos, and mind-warping experimental music from around the globe. ATG isn’t just any festival—it’s a mecca for lovers of more leftfield and experimental music with everything weird and wonderful from math-rock to post metal to the completely unclassifiable.

This year’s lineup is stacked with headline sets from Wardruna, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Karnivool and Tesseract, as well as appearances from legends like Melvins, Maybeshewill, Rolo Tomassi and so much more but we’ve honed in on some of the most exciting underground and rising acts who are poised to steal the show next weekend…..

After a five-year break, UK math rock institution Alpha Male Tea Party are making a triumphant return. Known for combining playful humour with surgical musicality, the trio blend explosive grooves, labyrinthine time signatures, and heartfelt melodies. Their 2020 album Infinity Stare showcased a more reflective and emotional tone, and recent single Battle Crab hints at a new era that includes even more vocals so expect a heroes return to ATG with an exhilarating and technically dazzling performance that sure to balance heart and humour in equal measure. Alpha Male Tea Party play the Yokhai stage on Friday 15th August at 15:20

Adebisi Shank are basically ATG royalty in spirit—even if this is their first appearance at the festival. Though the trio disbanded in 2014, they left behind a legacy of joyful chaos. Their three records, especially 2010’s This Is the Second Album of a Band Called Adebisi Shank, are landmark achievements in instrumental experimental rock—combining math-rock, electro-pop, video game music, and shredding intensity. Their live shows were legendary for bassist Vinny’s masks, manic energy, and unpredictability. Their reunion at ATG will be both a celebration and a revelation. Catch them on the Yokhai on Saturday 16th August at 18:50

Slift deliver a heavy psych experience on a galactic scale. Drawing on krautrock, doom, space rock, and fuzz-drenched prog, the French trio exploded onto the scene with 2020’s Ummon, and have only gone deeper into the cosmic void since. Their latest album, Ilion, expands their sound into an epic, conceptual journey full of motorik rhythms, hypnotic riffs, and thunderous crescendos. A favourite of ATG booker James Scarlett, Slift’s live show is a swirling trip into another dimension. Catch them on the Yokhai on Wednesday 13th August at 20:00

Self-described as a “four-headed monster,” Ni are the French masters of musical mischief and polyrhythmic punishment. Born from the backroads of the Ain region, they’ve made a name for themselves dismantling traditional song structures and reassembling them into something theatrical, bizarre, and exhilarating. Their sound blends complex rhythms, angular riffs, and noise-driven energy into a completely unpredictable live experience. Their 2022 album Fol Naïs is a chaotic masterpiece—like math rock, noise, prog, and performance art collided at high speed. If you’re into bands that test the limits of musical logic (and your brain), don’t miss this. They perform on the Yokhai stage on Thursday 14th August at 12:45

Norway’s Drongo are rising fast on the strength of their genre-fusing post-punk sound—equal parts abrasive and infectious.Drongo describe their sound as an intoxicating mix of space disco and krautrock, weaving in influences from disco, afrobeat, electronica, and noise. Their music has a playful and hypnotic groove that’s as cerebral as it is physical—ideal for both focused listening and letting loose at ATG. They hit the Main stage on Thursday 14th August at 12:10

Chicago’s Snooze bring jittery math-rock energy, threading tight grooves with unpredictable rhythmic patterns. Their guitar riffs ride sharp, off-kilter time signatures, while their breakdowns and harmonies land hard—oscillating between baritone vocals and high, gritty yells. Critics call them a happy heavy mathrock band for a reason—complex, playful rhythms backed by raw feeling. Catch them early in the weekend on the Bixler Stage at 15:20 on Thursday 14th August

Blunt and punishing, Battlesnake deliver raw power with a punch: think sludge, crunchy riffs and aggressive tension dialed straight to eleven. Battlesnake aren’t just a band; they’re a myth in motion. Emerging from the underworld (aka the sweaty band rooms of Sydney), they’ve crafted a live show that’s equal parts sword-wielding rock opera, metal crusade, and sci-fi fever dream. You can catch them headlining the PX3 on Thursday 14th August at 21:20
