DazGak! are a four piece post hardcore band from Cork City. Their sound draws from Midwest emo, math rock and bright, hook led pop. Since forming in mid 2021, they’ve built steady momentum, touring across Ireland, the UK and Italy, and sharing stages with FEAR, Overhead, The Albatross and A Burial At Sea.
Janky, angular and immediate are all fair descriptors. Pop instincts collide with irregular, nervy time signatures, a push and pull that defines the band at their best.
This latest single “Soulker” follows the band’s EP 81/82 and marks a clear shift from their instrumental origins. It’s the first DazGak! release to feature vocals from Jackson Weed and Jake O’Driscoll.
“It’s really exciting to be showcasing this new direction of the band,” says Jackson. “We’ve had these tunes for almost two years, so we’re eager to finally get this single out.”
Mixed by Joe Clayton (Pijn, Conjurer, H.Y.O.M), the track hits hard from the outset and refuses to loosen its grip. There’s a coarse edge to the finish, something tactile and unvarnished.
“We’ve spent a long time working on this set of songs and we’re really proud of them,” says Philly. “Having Joe on board put us at ease as soon as we heard he’d be mixing it. It was there from the first pass, he nailed it.”
