Liverpool’s Kusanagi have returned with “Dream Projector”, the latest single from their forthcoming third album Paramnesia, out 30th May via Ripcord Records. The instrumental four-piece continue to blur the lines between post-rock, math-rock, electronica and ambient metal, drawing from a wide range of influences that echo the cinematic swells of Mogwai and the precision-driven intensity of Animals As Leaders.
Formed in 2011, Kusanagi—comprised of Alan Caulton (guitar), Ben Davis (guitar), Dan Hunt (bass), and Dean Caffery (drums)—have long cultivated a distinct atmosphere in their work. With roots in Liverpool’s experimental underground, the group’s output balances technical prowess with sweeping emotional landscapes, shaped as much by classical motifs and hip hop beats as by walls of delay and distortion.
Having graced stages at Arctangent, Portals, and Strange Forms, Kusanagi have built a reputation for immersive live shows and a commitment to community, often organising collaborative events that highlight the diversity of the UK’s alternative music scene.
Paramnesia is their most conceptually cohesive work to date. Written with a dream-state in mind, each track evolved as a reflection of the subconscious—a meditation on memory, perception and the blurred boundaries between sleeping and waking life. The album title refers to the psychological phenomenon of distorted recollection: where real memories and imagined experiences become indistinguishably entwined.
