Watford’s indie/emo outfit Lakes are gearing up to release their latest single Hypernow, taken from their highly anticipated fourth album Slow Fade, set for release on the 4th July. The record will be released via their newly launched own label Lucky Art in collaboration with UK indie label Big Scary Monsters.
Hypernow is a track that sees vocalist/keys player Cat Rowland take charge with punchy vocal attitude, building to a heady peak that threatens to burst in a cascade of chugging riffs. “Hypernow is about not being present and thinking about the band ALL the time. It’s one of those where I wasn’t really sure what it meant until after we’d tracked it.” says vocalist/guitarist Roberto Cappellina. “I definitely carry a lot of guilt for not thinking twice about missing a birthday or a wedding for years on end, and I think at some point it’s put a strain on all of our relationships.”
The single comes mere weeks before the band head off on tour around the UK & IRE supporting emo legends The Get Up Kids who are celebrating 25 years of seminal record Something To Write Home About, with many dates already sold out.
“What an honour, what a band! That album is hugely important to us. Matt still has his ticket from their show at The Astoria back in 2002. We honestly still can’t believe this is happening. Crackers!” exclaims Cappellina.
