Leeds newcomers Love Rarely return today with their striking new single and video, “Severed”. Emerging from one of the UK’s most prolific music hubs, the band fuse math rock intricacy with emo urgency and hardcore intensity, carving out a sound that feels both immediate and distinct.
Guitarist Dan Dewsnap says of the track: “Severed is an exploration of the emotions you feel when having to cut out an alcoholic and hostile family member. Even though they brought so much pain, the relief is also tied in with a dash of guilt that you couldn’t help them change. It ruminates on the positives that draw you in and the negatives that pushed you away.”
“Severed” is lifted from the band’s highly anticipated debut album Pain Travels, due for release on 10th April via Big Scary Monsters (BSM).
Having already and rapidly carved out a reputation as one of the UK’s most emotionally fearless math-rock outfits, the five-piece have been redefining what vulnerability can sound like within heavy music. Weaving angular, technically demanding melodies with an unflinching lyrical openness that refuses to shy away from life’s darker corners. They balance intricate, off-kilter guitar work with cathartic explosiveness, creating sonic terrain that feels deeply human.
The debut album ‘Pain Travels’, captures the fullest picture of who Love Rarely have become. Shaped over the course of a year in spare bedrooms and improvised recording spaces, the record chronicles the band’s collective experience of family trauma, toxic households, and the complexity of navigating adulthood with scars that shape but no longer define them.
Live wise, the band have recently completed their first ever full UK support tour, with US 6 piece The Callous Daoboys. They will be playing their first ever London headline show at The Grace on May 6th, before a summer of festivals that includes Truck, Burn It Down and 2000trees festivals.
