After a 20-year hiatus, Welsh post-punk trio mclusky are back with a brand-new track, People Person, ahead of their upcoming album The World is Still Here and So Are We, out May 9 via Ipecac Recordings. The new song arrives alongside a video directed by Remy Lamont.
“People Person is the song that gave me tinnitus, so asking me about it is really cruel,” said frontman Andrew Falkous with characteristic dark humour. “It’s probably about being overwhelmed by the world, because that’s what all of our songs are about.” The song’s frantic energy and cathartic release echo this sense of disconnection, with Falkous reflecting the overwhelming pressures of modern life.
As the track itself wisely notes: “A lot of people like to be wise after the event,” a sentiment that seems to encapsulate mclusky’s unique blend of sardonic wit and raw, raucous energy.
The new album The World is Still Here and So Are We signals mclusky’s return to the fray after two decades of silence, and judging by People Person, they haven’t lost any of their sharp-edged charm. You can stream the track and watch the video below, and pre-order the album HERE
Be sure to keep your ears peeled for the full album when it drops this May.
