Overhead the Albatross & Hexcut @ ArcTanGent (Preview)

As ArcTanGent makes its way back to the iconic Fernhill Farm, we’re getting ready for another epic weekend packed with crushing riffs, wild energy, and boundary-pushing experimental music from across the globe. Ahead of the festival we caught up with Overhead, the albatross and Hexcut to have a quick chat about what fans can expect from their sets, their plans for the remainder of the year and their festival essentials.

What are you most excited for at ArcTanGent?

OTA : We are most excited about getting a chance to play. It’s been on the bucket list for years, so it’s great to finally have the opportunity. We are all looking forward to the experience as none of us have been to ATG before so it will be a nice chance to soak up the atmosphere.

HEXCUT

Torsten: Seeing a lot of my friends from the scene! ATG is a massive mates fest and I love it.

Rick: Hanging out with people who live for the music, last time I had the best time meeting people who’d travelled over from Canada especially.

Chris: I’m most looking forward to experiencing the festival for the first time. I have so many friends who say such good things about it. I can’t wait to get stuck in.

Dom: Karnivool! Their album Sound Awake is one of the finest pieces of art ever created and it hugely influenced me as a musician. I cannot wait to see them with ArcTanGent’s fantastic PA systems!

What can people expect from your set?

OTA: Our songs are all quite long so people can expect a mash up of what we can fit into 30 mins.

Hexcut

Torsten: Melodies, atmospheres, feelings and some big hooks.

Rick: Dark and light – it’s a set of 2 halves this time

Chris: High energy alternative madness!

Dom: Thoughtful, intricate melody making meeting a love for heavy riffs.

Which bands are you most excited to see over the weekend?

OTA: Unfortunately we are only there for Friday, as we have to get back to Ireland for another show. The lineup is so impressive that it will be hard to see everyone we want to on the Friday but bands on that day would definitely be Karnivool , Mabyeshewill, Future of the Left, Nordic Giants and Car Bomb.

Hexcut

Torsten: So many good choices this year! But my two big ones are Mew and Vessels.

Rick: Melvins and Tesseract

Chris: I really can’t wait to headbang to Pelican that’s ones going to be good

Dom:  Karnivool, Tesseract, Unprocessed, Vower

Are there any upcoming bands from your area that people should be checking out?

OTA: The music scene in Ireland is incredible at the moment, so it’s hard to pick, but here are some artists that we think are truly amazing. The Scratch, For Those I Love, bi-curious, Róis, Meryl Streak, Olive Hatake, Sloucho.

Hexcut

Torsten: Waldo’s Gift are killing it at the moment! I’d also like to shout out Jakabol, Intoku and Mammoth Toe for pushing weird music in Bristol forward!

Rick: Sans Froid, check out their set, they’re doing it right

Chris:  Surface air and the Lawi Anywar are really making moves in the local scene and are well worth checking out

Dom: What the others said!

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

OTA: After ATG we have a tour with the Swedish Post Rock giants EF around the UK which includes a slot at Damnation and a London show on the 7th November where we will be playing our latest album ‘I Leave You This’ in full with L.O.E and EF . We then have Gloomar festival in Germany later in the year, which is going to be great as we will get to play with some of our favorite bands Bruit ≤, Oh Hiroshima and Mono.

Hexcut

Torsten: We’re playing Collective Festival in September, and got a couple shows in the works which will be announced soon, but we’re also undergoing some personnel changes which will switch up the band! Big things coming, as they say…

Rick: Vocals, more melodies, more sounds, more live shows

Chris: Starting a new chapter for the band and get back into writing tunes!

Dom: Another festival, then retirement! 😭

What are your festival essentials?

OTA: Festival essentials are vodka and portable chargers.

Hexcut

Torsten: Earplugs and eye mask for getting sleep! And extra waterproofs especially for ATG

Rick: Fingerless gloves for the eve – after 25 years of drumming – gotta keep your hands comfy
