SLUNG release final preview of debut album with new single ‘Limassol’

Brighton’s Slung have been busy carving out a space for themselves—distorted, deliberate, and emotionally bruising. With their debut album In Ways out this Friday via Fat Dracula, the four-piece now offer a final glimpse into the record’s twisted intimacy with “Limassol”—a slow-burn that aches with memory, regret, and a fading sense of self.

Vocalist Katie Oldham’s voice doesn’t just narrate—it haunts. “Limassol” spins a story of a dying man retracing the steps of a summer long past, a holiday romance in 1990s Cyprus that never truly left him. The storytelling is vivid and unusually tender, anchored by a creeping sense of time slipping away: “A face in my head that I don’t recall / Do you know what it means? Did it matter at all?” This is the kind of songwriting that makes you pause, then look out the window for longer than you meant to.

Backed by a heaving, deliberate bassline courtesy of Vlad Matveikov, the track sees Slung pushing into weightier emotional terrain. It’s patient, but never indulgent—propelled by Ravi Martin’s grounded, dynamic drumming and Ali Johnson’s restrained guitar work, which holds just enough tension to keep you on edge. The track swells with strings from Ukraine’s Kaska Studio String Section, lending it an orchestral depth that never tips into sentimentality.

Oldham offers a second glimpse into In Ways with another standout, this one rooted in female autonomy and resilience. Inspired by the lives of sex workers and the complexities of power, she sings from the perspective of a woman who’s turned the tables—weaponising the gaze that society won’t let her escape from. “It’s about advising others to use it for their own advantage,” she says, with conviction that vibrates through every note.
