Bristol instrumental duo Socks and Ballerinas are today delighted to release their new album A Bit Jumpy. which is out now on all good digital service providers.
To celebrate the release, the band have revealed a live session video for previously-unreleased album cut ‘Muscle Monsters’. Filmed and recorded by Woodbox Productions in Bristol, it’s the perfect showcase for the razor-sharp danceable, looped chaos of the duo’s music.
Commenting on the track, drummer Katy Helfenbein said: “‘Muscle Monsters’ is a musical beast that consists of 3 parts: a guitar-heavy dancy beginning, a bassy jazz “interlude” and a very dynamic and epic last part. It was an awesome odyssey to get it to work all together and it’s a lot of fun to play live.”
“It’s a very fun but complex song,” adds guitarist Leo Calamati. “It might not be obvious the first time you listen to it, but the last part of the track is based around a loop that I actually record in the first third, then double its speed while playing some heavy bass riff. That loop is where the inspiration started from, several years ago with then enough time and work for it to grow into a real monster.”
