Sparta have announced Cut A Silhouette, their first new album in years, arriving May 29 via Equal Vision, Dine Alone, and Rude. Alongside the news, the El Paso trio have shared “Crater,” a tightly wound, slow-burn single co-written with Frank Iero that leans into the band’s enduring tension between abrasion and melody.
The album was produced and recorded in a brisk seven-day stretch with J. Robbins at Magpie Cage, a timeline that mirrors its immediacy. Across songs drafted in transit—hotel rooms, rehearsal spaces, and soundchecks – Cut A Silhouette revisits Sparta’s post-hardcore roots while sharpening their sense of restraint.
Frontman Jim Ward frames the record as a personal recalibration rather than a victory lap. “This is a love record,” he says. “I want it to leave an impression… I’m working to make something meaningful to me, and I want people to feel that.”
